Cost-reliability analysis of hybrid pumped-battery storage for solar and wind energy integration in an island community

This paper presents a mathematical model for estimating the optimal sizing and assessing standalone hybrid power system's performance entirely based on variable renewable energy sources coupled with storage system. study evaluates how different levels of main components' capital cost loss supply probability would affect sizing. The case selected this was Ometepe Island in Nicaragua, where crater lake an extinct volcano considered feasible upper reservoir pumped hydropower plant, reducing investments associated component. formulation considers losses gains, Pareto efficient solutions multi-objective optimization simultaneously increase reliability, reduce energy, minimize curtailment energy. By employing time-series hourly resolution, allows impact interannual variability performance. As study, obtained from results ranges between €0.047/kWh €0.095/kWh, international reference values, these values match information available literature other databases.

Wind energy management with battery storage

This paper considers short-term energy management of a wind power plant with battery storage, in order to smooth the variations of power output to the external grid. An optimal on-line heuristic is developed for a control environment, in which decision-making is independent of wind historical data and forecasts.
